UAN consists of 12 digits unique number allotted to each member of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) that helps to control for all his EPF accounts.
It was associated with an employee and will connect to his PF accounts across the organization and this number was issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in the  government of India.
Steps for Universal Account Number (UAN) Registration Process
Step by step process for Universal Account Number (UAN) registration as given by the following information
*      First log on the official website of EPFO services then you can activate your UAN
*      To select the ‘Activate UAN based registration’ and providing the details on your UAN member ID and mobile number.
*      Next you have to submitted the details and receive the PIN number for authorization on your mobile number
*      You have entered the PIN number and the screen will allow creating the login and the password using that can access the facilities in UAN portal.
*      The user name wills always your UAN while you can select your password.
Process of UAN Login
After registration, you can log on to the EPF official website using UAN username and password as the following process as below
*      First log in the website
*      Download the UAN card and Passbook
*      Showing the PF linking status and get the list all the member IDs
*      For viewing the transfer claim status file transfer claim and system generated transfer claim status.
*      To edit the personal details together with the mobile number and email id
*      You can update the KYC information and upload the documents
*      Finally showing the details helpdesk contacts
How to get the Universal Account Number
UAN is allotted only for those employees in service from 1st January 2014 to 30th June 2014.  In this process, by using 41.7 million subscribers have got their UAN number for this period and getting the UAN number is very simple process as follows
*      The EPFO will provided by the unique PF number to all employers.
*      The employer will have the UAN for an employee that contributes the PF with the new member ID.
*      The employees have submitted the KYC documents together with ID proof and address proof. The following documents will have to be provided.
o   Identity Proof - PAN card, Aadhaar or Passport
o   Bank account details and account number and the bank IFSC code
o   Address Proof - Ration Card, Driving license, passport or voter ID
*      The employer will have to take up the responsibility of verifying the KYC documents are submitted by the employee. The new member ID will link to UAN by the employer.
*      Finally, KYC verification is complete and the employees will have to register on the UAN website. Activate UAN Based registration must selected and the following mandatory details have entered.
o   For mobile number
o   Member ID provided by the new employer
o   UAN number offered by the employer. The users ID will your UAN for all future logins on the web portals.
*      The mandatory details are all submitted, an OTP PIN will send to your mobile number.
*      After entering the OTP PIN, you will have to enter the following details.
o   Date of birth
o   Father/husband name and other details
